All are invited to a “Solar Party” at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Caruthersville August 1st and 2nd. New York University professor Gerceida Jones will be on hand with special telescopes and element displays. This is not like a traditional party with food and music. But the festivities begin from three p-m until 10 p-m both Thursday and Friday. Residents can examine the surfaces of both the moon and sun. You also can locate planets and stars. There will be an AstroTeam with Dr. Jones with both a solar and a night telescope guiding you through the galaxies.
Dr. Jones is spearheading this event as part of the 2013 Washington School Reunion Inc. celebrations the first weekend of August.
